Tanganyika Blue is a Kigoma-based aquaculture fish farm and company producing high-quality, sustainably farmed tilapia for regional markets. Our mission is to build a structured, reliable fish distribution network that strengthens food security, creates economic opportunity, and delivers consistent value to communities across Tanzania and neighboring markets including Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo. As Tanganyika Blue expands its aquaculture operations in Kimbwela, Kigoma, we are looking for motivated and adaptable Aquaculture Graduate Technicians to join our growing team.
The Aquaculture Graduate Technician is an entry-level,
hands-on development position designed for graduates or diploma holders with a
background in aquaculture, fisheries, aquatic sciences, or related fields who
are eager to gain broad operational experience.
The role is intentionally varied. You will support aquaculture operations, water quality monitoring, basic laboratory and field sampling, equipment maintenance, data recording, and other general site activities.
The position is designed to provide broad exposure across the farm and an opportunity to learn on the job. As you gain experience, your role can develop into more specialized technical, operational, or supervisory responsibilities depending on your strengths, interests, performance, and the evolving needs of the company.
Responsibilities
- Support day-to-day aquaculture operations including fish handling, feeding, harvesting, fingerling and egg collection and other site activities.
- Assist with routine water quality monitoring, sampling, and environmental data collection.
- Support laboratory, field, and lake-based sampling activities under supervision.
- Assist with operation, monitoring, and maintenance of aquaculture equipment and infrastructure.
- Accurately record operational, environmental, and production data and support reporting.
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety protocols, and environmental guidelines.
- Work collaboratively with scientists, technicians, and operations teams across the site.
- Perform any other duties reasonably assigned by the supervisor or manager.
Must Have
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Aquaculture, Fisheries, Aquatic Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Biology, Engineering, or a related field.
- Comfortability to working outdoors and in operational environments.
- Ability to follow instructions and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Basic computer literacy and proficiency in MS Office.
- Strong spoken and written English and Swahili.
- Practical mindset with good problem-solving and observation skills.
Nice to have
- Willingness to learn and work across technical, operational, and field-based tasks.
- Basic understanding of aquaculture systems, water quality, or aquatic environments.
- No prior professional experience is required; however, any relevant prior experience will be considered an advantage.
- Strong analytical skills
